A Busy 2 Weeks

It's been a busy and difficult 2 weeks in our family as we lost our dear Papa.  He spent about 5 days in hospice surrounded by family and I spent as much time as I could there with him.  While I was there, Connor & Caylee sent photos and made phone calls to him to send love.

Caylee did her first drawing!

During the last 2 weeks, Caylee's walking progressed a lot!  She went from just a few steps to taking a lot more at a time!

Connor and I took 2 trips to the toy store to use some of his birthday money.  He picked out a Transformer and dinosaur that turns into an airplane.

When Papa died, cousins Fern & Phyllis flew in and got to spend some quality time with Connor.  Having the kids around made everyone smile during some emotional moments.

Connor & Ryan also had a chance to play together a lot and they both got to go behind the ice cream counter at the restaurant!  Connor picked out chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles!

During every night of shiva, Caylee got more and more daring with her walking and letting herself having free reign of the house.  She enjoyed playing with the magnets and pulling them off the wall for me to clean up!

Her walking progressed a lot each day and she even seemed to figure out that she should walk on the sidewalk and could crawl on the grass.

Weekend Fun & Kitty's Birthday

Caylee's first PB&J sandwich

Lil' baller!

Working on walking while the boys played baseball...

She was getting so upset that she couldn't play sports, so she finally got a chance at the end.  She loved it!

On Sunday, we celebrated Kitty's 11th birthday! Connor picked out a can of food for him as his gift and we gave it to him for breakfast.

Cupcakes!

She only ate the frosting, but at least she wasn't as messy as her birthday!

She did it!  At a few days shy of 14 months, Caylee took her first steps!

Milestones at 13 months

Somehow, all these big milestones are happening in such a short time!  She's growing up before our eyes and it's all happening so fast.  I feel like 13 months seems to be such a momentous age for her.

• I went upstairs to change Caylee's sheets and Connor ran up the stairs.  Caylee crawled in behind him which means she somehow crawled up the stairs all by herself! I didn't even know she could get up one step!

• Officially waving hello and goodbye

• First tooth popped

• Working on standing by herself

• Drank from a straw

• First taste of German food (brats, sauerkraut, etc)

• Trying to talk! Sometimes we think she's saying random words, but who knows? We thought we heard Connor a couple times which wouldn't be surprising since we yell it so often in our house.

• Next week, she'll spend her first few nights away from me :(  It's going to be hard for both of us (or maybe just me), but it's probably time to do it.

Let's go for a walk

On Monday, it was a little rainy out, but we needed something to do while Daddy made dinner.  I said to Connor, "Let's go for a walk."  I figured he'd run to his bike or stroller like he always does, I'd put him in and push him around the neighborhood.  But this time, he reached up his hand to mine.  We held hands and walked side-by-side down the street to the corner.

Heart melted.

On HIs Way...

He's working on it!  He's a pro cruiser and he's great walking while pushing something...
Anything he can find he will use to walk, but he's still not quite ready to walk on his own.

LLast night, we practiced walking and he made it a few steps again from Daddy to Mommy, but he's really still too unbalanced to do it.  It helps when we tempt him with Scout!

Steps!

I'm a proud mama!

I didn't think he was nearly ready, but Connor took 3 steps last night all by himself!  Of course, when I grabbed the video camera, he couldn't even take one, but we'll keep working on it!

Stairs & Cruising

Some new discoveries are happening in our house!

Connor has been a crazy cruiser for about the past week. He's walking along the furniture, window seat, dressers, and pretty much anything else he can find. His ultimate favorite thing to cruise is the bathtub! We actually tend to hang out in the bathroom a lot in the mornings and in the evenings so he loves playing in there. The bathtub is extra big so it gives him a lot of space to walk back and forth or visit someone while they're on the potty.

He also started to have an interest in the stairs a couple weeks ago. I've been very against even letting him near the stairs because it just seems so dangerous. But when we turned our back over the weekend, he was starting to make it to the second step. At the second step, he would go to sit down and we thought he was getting too tired to continue. He must have climbed to the second step at least 5 times on Sunday. Then in the afternoon, he was showing Grandma his climbing skills and he just kept going! I'm still super nervous about him going on the stairs, but I'd rather let him practice while being supervised on the carpet stairs than get into an accident because he doesn't know what he's doing.

He's getting to be such a big boy!
