Our Week

Caylee got her first cold after only 2 weeks at daycare :(  Poor girl has been snorting and she's all stuffed up, but fortunately, she's still sleeping through the night.

Connor got to try out his new Mickey headphones this week and he loves them!  Now we don't have to listen to Mother Goose Club and he feels like a big boy!

My loves hanging out in bed!

Look at that smile!  She's starting to play with her toys on her bouncy seat here and this was the first day I really noticed it.

Connor and Daddy read a new ABC book about bugs before bed one night.

On Friday, we celebrated Connor staying dry all week at daycare!  He got to pick out a Lightning McQueen car at the store!  He also begged to go to dinner and Target in just his undies, so we agreed to try.  He did awesome...until 20 seconds after I took this photo and he peed on our walk to the car!  So close!

Caylee's new favorite hobby is chewing on her hands.  That girl needs her pacifier or hands in her mouth all the time!

Pull-Ups Potty Party

We were selected to host a House Party sponsored by Pull-Ups over the weekend.  They sent us a bunch of freebies for getting kids ready to potty train and I invited some friends with toddlers over.

I didn't go all out with the party decorations and food, but hey, I'm still feeling sick and it was a small group.  I did do some signs and a cute wall hanging using new underwear and Pull-Ups with clothespins.

I promised Connor and Grady that I would have balloons, so I picked up some zebra print ones to go with the decor.

For food, I just did some easy snacks like carrots & dip, cookies, grapes, pretzels, etc.

The goldfish in little napkin diapers were a hit too!

When the boys woke up from their nap for the party, they loved playing with the balloons!

This was Connor's reaction when he realized his underwear was hanging on the wall.

6 toddler boys in our house was quite a handful, but they had a blast!

Some selfies at the end of the party

After everyone left, the boys posed for some pictures with the decorations.

And this is what happened after...
Pure exhaustion and some Mickey Mouse Club...

Connor's First Pair of Underwear

Big boy undies started last week!

He was so excited to pick out his own pair and put them on himself.  I probably emphasized this a little too much because he now insists on picking out his underwear every single morning.  His favorites are currently Thomas the Tank Engine, but I just purchased some Mickey to try out next week too.

He's been having about 2 accidents a day at daycare, but they said he's doing very well.  He wears a diaper under his undies for car rides or if we get really busy.  He loves to go potty all by himself which includes putting his potty seat on the potty, getting the stool situated, flushing, using toilet paper (towels), and saying "I did it!" when he's done.

Potty Training Begins

Now I get why parents say this is one of the hardest things you have to do as a parent of a young child.  This has happened so fast and we definitely weren't quite ready!  Since Connor started int he big kids room at daycare. they have the children sit on the potty at scheduled times each day.  He's only been in the big kids room for about 3 weeks, but the teachers keep saying how he's catching on very quickly.  This was quite a shock for us because we thought he'd kinda watch and try for the next few months and then maybe start getting more serious.

In just a couple weeks, he's gone from all diapers to wanting to go potty and making us crazy with his demands to do every part of the potty process all by himself.  We've quickly learned how to tolerate it, but it's been really hard!  At first, he was peeing on the floor and slipping in it because he couldn't control when he had to pee and it would come out so fast.  Now, he's a little better at sitting longer so he can wait for it to come out.  He goes potty every morning at home and insists on reading books while he waits.  Just in the past few days, he's been asking to be left alone when he's on the potty which is actually kind of cute and gives us a little break.  We have a very long way to go with this process, but we're starting!

This is the other little challenge that we have.  He's started to take off his diaper and pants while napping and then fall asleep in his mess.  He doesn't quite understand that he needs to call us if he has to go potty, but we're working on it.  He'll be moving to a big kid bed eventually, but my plan is to wait until spring if we can.

Next up, underwear!  Daycare said they'd like to try with him during the day, so I'd like to get more details from them about their plans and then we'll go shopping.

First poopy on the potty!

So proud of Connor!  I'm sad I wasn't there it witness it because I was sick in bed, but I heard the end of it from down the hall.

He was eating lunch and suddenly said, "Poopy," to Daddy.  He asked Connor if he had to go and if he'd like to use the potty.  Usually, when we ask, he says he wants to go in his diaper, but this day was different.  They went upstairs and Connor got excited to put his potty seat on the potty and sit on it.  And usually, he sits on it for a second and then gets off and says he's done.  But this time, he sat for a moment and went!  I heard the cheering in the bathroom and made myself get out of bed to go see it.  He got some hugs, high fives, and he got to flush the toilet all by himself!

Pee-pee on the potty!

On Saturday, July 6, Connor did something very special!

In the morning, we were hanging out in our bedroom when he started pulling on his diaper and saying, "Potty!" I asked him if he wanted to go on the potty and he ran over to the toilet.  He kept motioning that he wanted to get up on it and was trying to get his diaper off.  He sat on both the regular potty and his little green Ikea potty for a few minutes, but nothing happened.  It was such a strange thing because he's never shown any interest in going on the potty before.

We ran out to do some errands and then let Connor pick out his own potty at the store.  I think he's going to do best with a seat on the adult potty because he always likes to do what Mommy and Daddy are doing.  Later in the afternoon, he said he had to go potty again and started heading down the stairs towards a bathroom.  I ran for his seat and helped him up.  He loved holding onto the little handles and sitting up there like a big boy.  He wanted to get down several times, but I tried to distract him by showing him YouTube videos of Elmo.  He also tried to play with the toilet paper and flush, but I told him he only got to do that if he went potty.

Surprise!  He peed with a big smile on his face because he knew he did something that was good.  I clapped and praised him as he used toilet paper and flushed the toilet like a big boy!
Since then, he asked to go potty one other time, but nothing came out.  We're in no hurry for this and I'm not pushing it at all.  I just want him to be able to go if he wants to.  We're so proud of our big boy!

Fun in the bathroom

Look who I discovered having some fun in the bathroom!
Might be his favorite room in the house because there's so much fun stuff to play with!
He hasn't figured out that the toilet paper might be a fun toy (fortunately), but he is very interested in the toilet and playing with the lid. That tub is also his favorite object for cruising and people-watching.
