Picking a middle name

I always thought it would be cool to have a middle name that had some kind of significance. I really wanted to do something like that for the baby so he would have a fun story to tell about his name.

I don't know when I came up with this idea, but I think it was a few years ago. I always kept it to myself until it was finally time to brainstorm names. Why not use Bradley? I didn't like it enough for a first name, but it was perfect for a middle name.Besides Bradley being a normal boy's name, it's also where Hubby and I met and went to college. Not that we were super into school spirit or anything, but it's fun to think about all those memories. It's an important part of our past and I'm so excited to pass that down to our son.

Picking a name

I dreaded this for months. I knew it would be a huge argument and I wasn't in the mood to argue with the Hubby over it because it was supposed to be something special. The time had come where we really needed to start working on it so I could finish up crafts and get the room done before I get too tired again.

So we're hanging out in the kitchen while he cleaned a paintbrush and he said, "Go get the list." I made a list of some of my favorite names and he looked at them once before and pretty much crossed off 80% off them. I figured this was going to go bad because he always said he didn't like any of them and wouldn't give me even one suggestion of a name he did like.

So we sit down on the couch to eat breakfast and he glances at the list. He said, "I've been thinking about Connor for the last few weeks." And I said, "I've been thinking about that same name for the last few weeks too."

"Ok, it's settled."

The discussion was over! Painless and we completely agreed!

"Baby"

Baby T still does not have a name so we just call him Baby.
"Baby kicked me." "Baby is trying to rip through my stomach." "Baby needs a foot massage." (or Mommy)

Not much time left! This is such a huge decision and I don't want to make it in one day. I do want to decide because I have crafts to do with his name, but I don't want to tell people and get their stupid opinions. Hubby really wants to tell people once we decide, so that's why I'm putting it off. I told him I'd be very sad if people say anything negative and he said they wouldn't. Ehhh, I don't know about that. People will want to change our minds if there's still time. If we don't announce it until the birth, it will be too late and that's his name.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive and worried about this, but it bothers me. If we decide on a name, we obviously took some time to think it over and we're happy with it. Why do people feel the need to give their input like we just decided in 2 seconds and want to change it? And why do people feel the need to go out of their way to suggest names they like? It's completely our decision and I don't want input from others. I've looked through the name books a zillion times and I promise I saw your precious name in there. If I liked it, it would be on my list.

Baby Names?

No, I'm not revealing our name choices. In fact, we haven't even discussed it.

I'm shocked at how many girls on the Bump have already decided on their baby names already! We're not discussing it until after we find out the gender, so we have 2 weeks to go. I spent a few weeks going through the entire baby name book and writing down the ones I liked, but it's not narrowed down at all. I feel like I need to go through a few more books just in case I missed something. Hey, I was watching tv while I looked through the book, so it's quite possible.

A lot of the names I like and that are big right now end in an "n" sound which doesn't work so well with our last name. I also probably don't want to use something super popular, but you never know what we'll decide on.

What if we come up with a name and it doesn't seem like it fits when the baby is born? Should we have alternatives just in case?

I also need to come up with a Hebrew name, but that will be a lot easier since we'll be passing down my grandma or grandpa's Hebrew name. One decision almost made!
