Bedtime

We've started a new transition with Connor's bedtime.

First off, we realized that if we say, "Night night," he walks over to the gate and gets ready to be carried to his bedroom.  It's nice to see that he understands what it means and he knows when it's coming so he's not upset.

Now that he's sleeping on a cot at daycare, he's learning to put himself to sleep.  We used to rock him until he was drowsy for every nap and bedtime because he wouldn't go to bed on his own.  After his transition to the toddler room at daycare, I think he's been learning to put himself to sleep with just a little rubbing on his back.  So for the last week or so, we've been starting to put him right in his bed and rub his back instead of rocking in the chair.  Surprisingly, it's been working really well!

A tiny part of me is sad that he doesn't want to be rocked like a baby, but it's also a huge weight off our shoulders.  Bedtime was probably the most stressful thing for us and we had to assign days that each of us would do it.  But if this continues, it's going to be so much easier for us!

  1. I think getting your kids to go to sleep on their own is one of the best gifts you could give yourself for Christmas. :) Enjoy!!
